Piazza Unità d'Italia
Italy's Liberty Square, commonly called Piazza Unità, is traditionally the "large square" in Trieste, located at the foot of the San Giusto hill between Borgo Teresiano and Borgo Giuseppino,and it opens out onto the sea. This elegant" living room" of the city is enclosed by elegant Art Nouveau architecture: the Palace of the Austrian Lieutenancy which is now the seat of the Prefecture, Palazzo Stratta which houses the historic Caffè degli Specchi, Palazzo Model on the corner that leads to Piazza della Borsa, the Palazzo del Municipio , on whose tower two bronze automatons strike their chimes at the stroke of the hour, the more ancient Palazzo Pitteri, the Grand Hotel Duchi d'Aosta and the regional seat of the Palazzo del Lloyd Trieste. The square, thanks to its size, is capable of hosting large-scale artistic and musical events.
