Scala Reale - Bacino S. Giusto
Piazza Unità opens out onto the sea, the steps of Scala Reale descend into the water and the San Giusto Basin extends from that point to Molo Audace: for concerts at the sea the location is highly suggestive. Scala Reale was built in white Aurisina stone in 1922 on the occasion of King Vittorio Emanuele III's visit to the city. In 2004 it was embellished with two bronze statues created by the Umbrian sculptor Fiorenzo Baci, on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the reunification of Trieste with Italy (1954): a Bersagliere climbs the staircase waving the tricolor in memory of the first redemption of Trieste to Italy (1918) while, on the opposite side, "The Girls of Trieste" sew the Italian flag.
